Day 4: 8th April - Home leg

Finally it came to the last day of this short exploration. We have to pull through distance of 636km. Starting fresh and early. After re-fuelling, we took a tour around Chumpon ; took stroll around the city of its fame as city in the garden. Bikers ride in group in town , replace one mark after another to out of town then proceed at own confortable pace enjoying the ride and stop for smoking and taking picture as like. After 180km, that was a first stop at Surat Thani.
All the way down south are riding on the hiway in between traditional villages, plantations and factory outlet. Rows and rows of tropical orchard, with coconut and durina dominating the output of the area. The next 179 km is Tung Song the land of king of the fruits durian. Lunch here was superb, beware friends, those halal seeked got to look for restraurant and stall with the star and moon sign indicates halal status operated by Muslim. Bikers then move down to a stop Patthalung in 87 km away whith also a renowned tourist spot and also home for Thailand Bike Week. Next destination is Hatyai through Ratthapum. We decide not to make any stop here not only as seen heavy traffics flowing in but also the distance to border town is just 50km away. The weather too doesnt looks friendly to us bikers. It was raining cats and dogs and the road was flooded as we approching Sadao. After custom point, PakMan, Bangcik and Haji choose to brave the raising water cruising over "waterways" to Dannork and reached there at 5.00pm, wet from head to toe! A good time to rest and search for dinner while waiting for others to arrive. This is the last stop to clear the baht. After clearance and salam, we said good by and proceed home, safe and sound.

Day 3:Trivia of Damnoen Saduak

Damnoen Saduak is the infamous Bangkok floating market. No wakeup call, bikers rose early to ride the final destination. Took morning coffee and heat-up engine under drizzling rain. Situated at Bangkok outskirt, journey from Petchaburi to floating market is only 85km.
The challenge today is not of the road condition but the wheather and Bangkok traffic. Hell lots of insane riders , we braved through heavy rain and light tropical thunderstorm nonsuch happy kids endured the road under constructions, sort of additional challenge we'd never anticipated.
Wet wet wet...thanks to the invention of rain gear! The road is too very slippery. Tell you pals, it is indeed very important to have safe and confortable riding gear, waterproofs. Motorbike too, must and must in good condition for round trip. Before riding, invest a little on brake pad, cable and hose, do adjustment and what not; including re-set of the suspension.

Touring will definitely adding loads from a place to another . That will paid off by comfort at road handling under misery wheather.
Phew.. shed off out riding suit at the market enterence and hang it over letting the rain water drip off. With light t-shirt and pants, we went lepak-lepak around and tried out brewing coffee with cookies round. Refeshed!

PakMan&wife,Anuar&wife,Bangcik and Bob rented out boat for 50baht/head / 30 mins. Free and easy but pity the makcik peddled out with baby elephant sized bikers onboard!

It was still early when we arrived so the boating was smooth. We took photos and checked again the things to buy list before decided to zoom off. As this not a shopping trip, everyone made resolution to come again with family. It is still raining when we said goodbye to floating market. Mr Ezad looked fresh riding in rain, otherwise our man will be yawning along the way. His carbohidrate level is fast burning maybe that he is fast asleep and need to stop for a quick nap!
Next disty is Pruachap Kiri Kan which is 246km away. We ran out of time actually, thus the group decide in-situ as where to stop for meal and continue the journey for another 180km to Chumpon. Stop for refreshment at Cha Am beach but a couple of bikes extended to Hua Hin. They were riding faster than Pace Rider and got to find their own hotel in Chumpon. No sweat, as long as everyone is safe and sound. No "horray-hooray" tonite as group are in total worn out after rain bath in Bangkok and sunny way to Cha Am. A few get down for food and some others having maggi cup happy meal.At hotel, PakMan made alternative plan for the journey nex morning as heard of news that Surat Thani is nonstop raining.

More challenge for tomorrow's home leg to cross border Thailand/Malaysia... sawadee....

Day 2 Myanmar Overland

Overnite at the Royal Princess Hotel. Sleep like a log!
Resting the engine on this second day ; we took boat ride to Kawthaung in 45 mins to do Myamnar overland.

MYANMAR FROM SEA VIEW

At Myammar immigration post, Bangchik paid USD10 for passport clearance. Kawthung township at background.
Syah Badang searching for USD to pay at toll. White building is the one and the only Kawthaung Hotel.
Before reach at mainland, have to stop at Thai army checkpoint(island)and Myanmar army checkpoint.

Kawthaung is more or less a cowboy town. We 're greeted by hungry children begging for money but it's just for a while. Suddenly all the hanky panky went quiet when army troop took charge. Not knowing what's happenig, we 're then ushered to a road dance show. Followed by that was a roar of platuns of army escorting a big someone patrolling the road. Nasib baik sempat sembunyi camera, kalau tak nahas kena rampas dek junta! Visiting this town was limited to 2 hours, nothing much can be done but only to the first attaction here - germstone. Burning the baht, everyone took home good a grade jade.

Back to Siam mainland, checked out and headed to Petchaburi through the hilly Lang Suan. Raining. Shah skidded over the wet oily road. Just a minor bruise and a little breaking the right firing of the Blackbird! He's not alone though. 2 Siamese pick-up vannet was then seen went off road, masuk gaung jugak! Kah kah kah!

Riding to Petchaburi took about 586 km. We started late as to wait for bikers back from their shop till drop trip from Kawthaung. Like it or not, need to hit Petchaburi before nightfall yet has to tolerate timing for re-fuelling both the tank and the tummy. Lucky enough the experienced pace maker PakMan had marked through his earlier trips of his favorite foodstall along the highway that served yummy food. Have to move quickly after meal as the Petchaburi ia still far away.Stop by road side at ISTHMUS OF KRA for refreshment(nice blended coffee).

Yours truely who lead second group is now asked by PakMan to move first as one of my team member Haji Taki having short vision at night. With Haji Taki riding behind me , I will be waiting at the next gas station for grouping then all of us will then riding together to downtown Petchaburi. The plan is the plan...parked by the road side and waiting...saw Haji Taki heading forward. Hah, here comes the thrill. As the second group arrived, Pak Man took back leading bikers to hotel and I dashed up tracking Haji Taki. I was worry of him with his poor sight at night kept searching him for more than 50 km. Had no choice as it was at midnight, I returned to hotel with worn out mind and body and konged-out mobile phone just to find that Haji Taki is already in his la la land...snoring...Me?ha ha ha

GOOD NIGHT PETCHABURI(with a pager vibrating around my stomach)
